CIT is a University of New Haven hub created to advance technology-related initiatives and broaden participation with our external stakeholders. CIT encompasses all technical and technology-related fields and interdependence among various disciplines to advance its mission of creating externally focused curricula for workforce development, workshops, research, and other outreach opportunities.

We curate learning opportunities that reach a broad range of learners including, but
not limited to, K-12 and postsecondary students, business owners, leaders, and entry-level
to experienced employees.
Outreach
CIT partners with local, regional, and state-based organizations to curate advanced
skill attainment workshops and programs for additional training and workforce development
opportunities.
Innovation
We use our expertise to offer solutions and projects that improve the digital experiences
and safety in the workplace and society overall.

The hacking club creates an environment for students to work together to learn more about cybersecurity outside of class.
The Hacking Club organizes CTF@CIT, the university’s virtual capture-the-flag event attracting more than 740 teams and 1,100+ users. Prizes are usually sponsored by leading information security and technology companies.
The hacking team consists of the most qualified students who compete in collegiate cybersecurity competitions:
- CCDC- National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition
- CPTC- Global Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition

Women in Cybersecurity Student Chapter

The mission of the WiCyS Student Chapter is to build a community within the University of New Haven (hereafter referred to as “Academic Institution”) that promotes women’s education, participation, and leadership in the field of cybersecurity.
The WiCyS Student Chapter is organized with the following purposes:
- To decrease the gender disparity in cybersecurity.
- To provide education, mentorship, and networking support to students through the WiCyS community.
- To promote and recruit women in cybersecurity workforce through the Academic Institution.
Smart Device Security Awareness Workshop
Dr. Khare leads the "Smart Device Security Awareness Workshop for Seniors" in partnership with the New Haven Free Public Library. The initiative educates seniors on safely using their smartphones and other smart devices, recognizing the unique vulnerabilities faced by this demographic. Students participate in research opportunities exploring the intersection of technology and security.
The Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC)
The competition is designed to assess students' depth of understanding and competency in managing the challenges of protecting network infrastructures and information systems. It enables students to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom while fostering teamwork and effective communication.
Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC)
CPTC is a bit different from several other collegiate Cybersecurity competitions. Instead of defending your network, searching for flags, or claiming ownership of systems, CPTC focuses on mimicking the activities performed during a real-world penetration testing engagement conducted by companies, professional services firms, and internal security departments around the world.
National Security Agency's Codebreaker Challence
The NSA Codebreaker Challenge provides students with a hands-on opportunity to develop their reverse-engineering / low-level code analysis skills while working on a realistic problem set centered around the NSA's mission. While the challenge is intended for students, professors are encouraged to participate as well.
The 2024-25 Challenge launches September 16, 2024.

UNH faculty and graduate students showcase their research and brainstorm ideas to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
GenCyber Summer Camp
Funded by the NSA/NCAE-C, CIT affiliated faculty offer cybersecurity summer camps for high school teachers and students.
Cyber Threat Intelligence Workshop
CIT has partnered with American Eagle Financial Credit Union to offer workshops for their members and residents addressing various types of cyber threats and attacks and their possible remediation strategies.
Satellite Imagery Analysis Workshop (ArcGIS Pro)
Use satellite imagery to generate spatiotemporal data on geopolitical events in ArcGIS Pro (lead: Dr. Michelle Fabiani).

Red Hat Academy @ CIT

CIT Fall 2026 Updates
University of New Haven Awarded New National Science Foundation Grant
The Tagliatela College of Engineering at the University of New Haven received a $2 million National Science (NSF) grant to continue our past offering of CyberAICorps® Scholarship for Service to produce the next generation of AI-Focused Cybersecurity scholars ready to enter the government workforce and protect the nation from ever-sophisticated cyber attacks.
Welcoming New & Returning Cybersecurity Scholars
On October 7, 2026, CIT recognized new and returning scholars at the Scholar Welcome Celebration for their academic achievements and dedication to serving the public in critical cybersecurity government roles. Parents, friends, faculty, and administrators were in attendance.
Four new scholars were selected for the CyberAICorps®: Scholarship for Service program this semester: Max Kittredge ‘28,’29 M.S.; Kloe Tedford ‘27, ‘28 M.S.; Isabelle “Izzie” Savage ‘27, ‘28 M.S., and Evan Yavor ‘28,’29 M.S. The cohort is enrolled in the 4+1 accelerated pathway and will earn both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity.
CIT Powers Up the Cyber Defense Talent Pipeline
The Immersive Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program (ICWDP) provides free, specialized cybersecurity training engineered to fast-track professionals and career changers into high-demand technical roles. Supported by a workforce development grant from the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C), the program directly addresses critical talent shortages in America’s most vital industrial sectors.
ICWDP prepares participants for entry-level AI, cybersecurity, and cyber threat analyst roles through two training pathways: Cyber Threat Intelligence for Finance Professionals and AI & Cybersecurity. Focusing on critical infrastructure sectors like finance and government, the program recently celebrated a major milestone. Fifty-six professionals from the private, public, and military sectors successfully enrolled and earned over 90 specialized badges, strengthening the nation’s cyber defense talent pool.
UNewHaven to host regional CPTC Competition
For the seventh time, the Tagliatela College of Engineering will host the New England regionals of a global penetration testing competition on October 24-25, 2026. The Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) is an offense-focused, premier global collegiate ethical hacking competition where student teams act as professional penetration testers. Eight teams will compete, including a UNewHaven team comprised of cybersecurity students and Hacking Team members, seeking a top performance outcome and invitation to compete at CPTC Nationals. Professor Liberty Page coordinates the two-day event, which involves dozens of volunteers – faculty, student, and industry professionals – as well as sponsors. Dr. Murat Gunestas will serve as team coach for the third consecutive year.
