Connecting students of all majors with more than 100 companies and organizations offering employment and internship opportunities, the University of New Haven Career Development Center's fall Career Expo drew 900 students, including many first-years.

Hannah Blackburn '23 recently began her first year at the University of New Haven, and she is already exploring potential internships and possible career paths. She met recently with representatives from several local companies and organizations at the Career Development Center's fall Career Expo.

"I thought it was very helpful because I found some excellent opportunities," said Blackburn, a criminal justice major.

Blackburn was one of 900 students – many of them first-years – who attended the career expo. They impressed the representatives they met with.

"University of New Haven students are very motivated," said Tom McDonald of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. "Everyone I spoke with had an answer when I asked them what they were looking for. I was especially glad to see so many first-year students. They are beginning their college experience by thinking ahead."

Students networked with potential employers, learning about the skills they would need to succeed and possible job opportunities. Representatives from Webster Bank, Travelers, General Dynamics, Pfizer, Amazon, Infosys, the FBI, and the Vermont State Police, among others, discussed students' interests and career plans with them.

The career expo also enabled students looking for internships to make important connections. Lisa Roy, director of the , enjoys meeting with students at events such as this one.

"The University's Career Development Center engages students early to help them transition to professional life," said Roy, who also meets with students from UConn, Quinnipiac University, and Southern Connecticut State University. "University of New Haven students are strong candidates – they are motivated and engaged."

For Kayla Nemeth '23, the career expo enabled her to build her network, while ensuring that she was on the best path to achieving her career goals.

"I'm interested in behavioral analysis," she said. "Although I'm a psychology major, I wasn't sure if that was what I should be doing. I wondered if I should be a criminal justice major, but by coming here and networking, I've discovered that this is the correct major for what I want to do."
